HCG / Profasi / Pregnyl

What is HCG?
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a natural hormone produced by the placenta and purified from the urine of pregnant women. The action of HCG is virtually identical to that of pituitary LH as it triggers ovulation.

Are there side effects to Profasi/Pregnyl?
The following adverse reactions have been associated with administration of HCG: headache, irritability, restlessness, fatigue, breast tenderness and nausea.

How is Profasi/Pregnyl administered?
Profasi is administered in a single intramuscular injection in the buttocks or thigh. It is given at a specific time during mid-cycle, to assist the clinic in scheduling the ovum retrieval.

Can Profasi/Pregnyl affect the developing fetus?
There is no increased risk of an abnormality from that reported in the general population.
