What
is HCG?
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a natural hormone
produced by the placenta and purified from the urine of pregnant women.
The action of HCG is virtually identical to that of pituitary LH as
it triggers ovulation.
Are there
side effects to Profasi/Pregnyl?
The following adverse reactions have been associated with administration
of HCG: headache, irritability, restlessness, fatigue, breast tenderness
and nausea.
How
is Profasi/Pregnyl administered?
Profasi is administered in a single intramuscular injection in the
buttocks or thigh. It is given at a specific time during mid-cycle,
to assist the clinic in scheduling the ovum retrieval.
Can Profasi/Pregnyl
affect the developing fetus?
There is no increased risk of an abnormality from that reported
in the general population.
