Lupron / Suprefact

What is Lupron/Suprefact?
Lupron/Suprefact acts on the pituitary gland. This medication causes suppression of the ovarian response, unless the ovary has been stimulated with other drugs such as Puregon or Gonal F.
What is the benefit of using Lupron/Suprefact?
Lupron/Suprefact decreases the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation before the physician can collect the oocytes. As a result, the chances that the cycle may be cancelled are reduced.

How is Lupron/Suprefact administered?
Lupron/Suprefact is given by subcutaneous injection. The patient, or partner, will be instructed in how to give the injections so that this medication can be administered at home. Injection is usually given in the leg, abdomen or arm, and administration is initiated the month prior to the treatment cycle.

What are the side effects of Lupron/Suprefact?
The following adverse reactions have been associated with administration of Lupron/Suprefact: joint pain, headache, hot flashes, bruising and tenderness around the injection site.

Can Lupron/Suprefact affect the developing fetus?
In comparison with the general population, there is no increased risk of an abnormality.
