is Lupron/Suprefact?
Lupron/Suprefact acts on the pituitary gland. This medication causes
suppression of the ovarian response, unless the ovary has been stimulated
with other drugs such as Puregon or Gonal F. |
What
is the benefit of using Lupron/Suprefact?
Lupron/Suprefact decreases the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation
before the physician can collect the oocytes. As a result, the chances
that the cycle may be cancelled are reduced. |
How is Lupron/Suprefact
administered?
Lupron/Suprefact is given by subcutaneous injection. The patient,
or partner, will be instructed in how to give the injections so
that this medication can be administered at home. Injection is usually
given in the leg, abdomen or arm, and administration is initiated
the month prior to the treatment cycle. |
What
are the side effects of Lupron/Suprefact?
The following adverse reactions have been associated with administration
of Lupron/Suprefact: joint pain, headache, hot flashes, bruising and
tenderness around the injection site. |
Can Lupron/Suprefact
affect the developing fetus?
In comparison with the general population, there is no increased
risk of an abnormality. |
